"NO RULES"
by Jerry Hodge
"In those days there was no king; every man did what was right in his own eyes." Although
these are the concluding words in the book of Judges describing their world, it could describe
our world. A time when no want wants to claim absolute truth and appear judgmental. So we are
a tolerant people where everyone has input on truth. You may not believe in gravity, but if
you jump out of a tree you will fall. Truth prevails.
Our national election has been another reminder about our views of rules and law. If we do
not benefit - change the rules. The important thing is not the constitution, country or unity;
it is about me. This worldly attitude should not surprise us. The world will always be selfish.
What should cause alarm is when this attitude sneaks its way into the church. When God's very
own people shy away from absolute truth, it is still truth even if we don't like it!
I believe in a Heaven and a Hell. I believe in God - the Father, Son, and Spirit. I believe
the only way people can be saved is through Jesus Christ. I believe marriage is the union of
male and female. I believe in abstinence until marriage. I believe life is sacred and it is
still wrong to kill. (That includes life in the womb.) I believe that we should do unto others
what we would have them do to us. I believe that selfishness is wrong. I believe Righteousness
will exalt a nation and build a great church. I believe that God's truth is still the truth. And
I believe that even if I didn't believe it - it would still be truth.
