Jenny - Part One

by Doug Strange

Jenny was a woman much like any other that you might meet on the street, or at work, or in church. She got up in the morning, went to work, came home at the end of the day, spent time around the house or running errands, and went to bed. There was one notable difference though. Jenny was a very large woman. Every day when she would struggle to get out of bed, she would look up to the sky and ask, "God, why did you make me like this?" The question was asked more out of anger than curiosity.

One day as she was driving to work, she happened to look over to the side of the road. That was when she noticed a house. It sat back from the road a bit and looked like any other house that you might see driving along an expressway. And yet, it stood out. For you see, sitting on the front porch was a little boy. As Jenny drove by she saw that the little boy waved to her, as if to say: "Good morning, have a nice day." Jenny waved back and kept on driving to work. She didn't think anything more the house or the little boy until the next morning, when she saw that he was once again on the porch, and waving. This time she noticed that he had a big smile on his face. Jenny waved back and found that she too had a smile.

This routine went on for some time. Morning after morning Jenny and the little boy would wave 'good morning' to each other. As time went by, Jenny became more curious about her 'Good Morning' friend. She checked around and found that the little boy was unable to walk. He had been in an accident when he was younger and was paralyzed from the waist down. Intrigued Jenny did some further investigation. As she probed deeper into the situation, she found that the little boy and his mother were the only two people living in the house, and that his name was Justin.
